Sonnax offers CH-WP-7, a plastic stator cap molded from phenolic resin. This stator cap is a replacement for the OE stator cap and bimetal washer, which are prone to wear in many rebuilds.
CH-WP-7 is .040" thicker for those who wish to machine the thrust area between front cover and turbine hub to reduce and correct clutch release clearance. The suggested clutch release clearance is .020" - .025". The clutch release clearance is often too great after the cover is resurfaced. This excessive clearace will cause the piston and turbine to separate too much, causing the damper springs to ride up the piston spring retainer and wedge between the piston and the turbine. This prevents full clutch release.
