Anatomy of a Transmission: Oil Flow in the Pump-PR-Converter-Cooler Lube Circuits
Gregg Nader
Extreme wear of the OE cast pump bore is possible and beyond the ability of reaming to fix. If wear gap exceeds .094", pump replacement is required.
Severe wear of the TC limit valve bore in listed Chrysler units results in loss of converter release oil pressure. Reduced release pressure at low speed and idle will drag the converter lining, causing engine surge, pulsation or stall. Low release pressure at cruise affects and limits efficiency, often increasing RPM and reducing fuel economy. If release pressure is low enough, the converter lining may drag enough to glaze the lining.
A worn TC limit bore contributes to converter drainback issues. Sonnax oversized TC limit valve kit 44912-03K provides extra support for the valve to reduce future valve wear, restoring normal converter charge and cooler flow, plus correcting converter overheating problems.
Kit also serves late-model steel valve.
Sonnax valve body layouts provide a detailed overview of individual units making it quick and easy to determine what’s available for the specific valve body you’re working on. See all Sonnax valve body layouts.

Vacuum test the TC Limit Valve in the recommended testing ports. Vacuum should hold a minimum of 16 in-Hg.
