Cause:

Narrow OE valve stem at linkage is prone to stress-related breakage.

Correction:

Replace broken or suspect OE valve with improved-strength, drop-in Sonnax manual valve assembly.

Some BMW vehicles with 6L45 transmissions may exhibit no engagement when shifted into Forward or Reverse. Under these circumstances, it is common that the manual valve has broken into two pieces forcing the car into the Neutral position.
