Anatomy of a Transmission: Oil Flow in the Pump-PR-Converter-Cooler Lube Circuits
Gregg Nader
The end plugs at the various valves are designed to seal line pressure and SLT pressure that is critical in controlling component apply pressure during shifts at various throttle pressures. When this fluid pressure is allowed to leak due to plug wear, various shift complaints and burnt clutches occur within those specific circuits. Loss of pressure at the secondary regulator valve and lockup relay valve plugs also prevents proper control of the converter circuit, creating lockup complaints.
Sonnax O-ringed end plug kit 47740-21K restores correct circuit pressures in listed Toyota/Lexus units. The O-ring provides additional sealing to reduce hydraulic losses at critical circuits.
Sonnax valve body layouts provide a detailed overview of individual units making it quick and easy to determine what’s available for the specific valve body you’re working on. See all Sonnax valve body layouts.
