Anatomy of a Transmission: Oil Flow in the Pump-PR-Converter-Cooler Lube Circuits

Required tool kit 96201-TL2 is no longer in production. Check with your distributor for availability.
In listed Ford units, solenoid regulator valve affects the TCC solenoid feed with its modulated output. All TCC solenoid feed oil passes through this valve. When the solenoid regulator valve bore wears, valuable solenoid feed oil leaks to exhaust. When the solenoids are energized, this feed oil is directed to the bypass clutch control valve to apply the converter clutch. If there is excessive bore wear at the solenoid regulator valve, even though the solenoid is energized, there will be insufficient oil pressure to apply the converter clutch. Sonnax oversized solenoid regulator valve kit 96201-21K re-establishes the valve-to-bore fit, and prevents valuable solenoid feed oil leakage.
The solenoid regulator valve shares the same bore with the converter regulator valve. The converter regulator valve can cause problems with converter pressure, converter fill rate, cooler flow and EPC solenoid pressure. The Sonnax converter regulator valve 96201-23K can resolve these problems.
Both the converter and solenoid regulator valves affect TCC application. Be sure to inspect them along with the TCC bypass valve bores whenever a converter problem exists.
Sonnax valve body layouts provide a detailed overview of individual units making it quick and easy to determine what’s available for the specific valve body you’re working on. See all Sonnax valve body layouts.
