Cause:

A soft reverse clutch drum journal.

Correction:

Salvage damaged reverse clutch drums by machining and installing the Sonnax reverse clutch drum sleeve.

A soft reverse clutch drum journal can cause bushing failure and/or reverse clutch drum journal damage in Ford CD4E and Mazda LA4AEL units. To salvage drums with worn or damaged bushing journals, Sonnax offers reverse clutch drum sleeve 73300-01. This pre-hardened steel sleeve will extend the life of the reverse clutch drum bushing journal.
