The Mercedes 722.6 transmission is susceptible to a variety of drivability complaints, such as a delayed engagement into Drive or Reverse. These units can also exhibit a flared 2-3, 3-4 and/or 4-5 shift accompanied by flared forced kickdown shifts. The most common cause of these complaints is a broken regulating pressure control valve spring. The spring usually breaks near the middle, allowing the two halves to screw into each other, changing its length. As the length of the broken spring changes, it affects line pressure, which can cause one or all of these complaints. Sonnax offers 68942-01 for use with the regulating valve and in controlling line pressure.
Will not fit later units with single valve lineup and 3.10" spring, body casting #R1402773801.
